Does AI search require a separate SEO strategy?
Not in the way many businesses have been told. Google says its generative AI features are grounded in the same Search index and core ranking systems used by traditional results. A business does not need a special AI file, a new category of schema, or pages written only for chatbots. It needs pages that can be crawled, indexed, understood, and trusted: clear service definitions, accurate business details, useful examples, descriptive headings, internal links, and content that adds something beyond a generic summary.
- Keep important answers in visible HTML
- Use accurate titles, headings, canonicals, and internal links
- Make structured data match the visible page
Create information worth retrieving
AI-generated results are assembled around a user’s question, so broad pages that repeat common advice have little reason to be selected. Build content around the decisions customers actually make: what a service includes, when it is the right fit, what inputs are needed, how the process works, and which risks or tradeoffs matter. Add first-hand project context, original images, local knowledge, tested checklists, or process details that a generic article cannot reproduce.
- Answer one primary intent per page
- Lead with a direct answer before expanding
- Support claims with project evidence or primary sources
Make the business entity easy to understand
Search systems need consistent signals about who created the content and what the company does. Use a complete company page, visible contact information, consistent naming, descriptive author or publisher information, service pages, relevant locations, and accurate Organization or LocalBusiness markup. Connect articles to the service, portfolio, and location pages that prove the business can act on the advice it publishes.
- Use consistent business identity across the site
- Connect educational content to services and proof
- Avoid unsupported awards, results, or expertise claims
Use media and page experience as supporting evidence
Original screenshots, project mockups, diagrams, and video can make an explanation easier to understand and more distinctive. Descriptive alternative text and nearby captions help clarify what the media shows. The page also needs to work well on mobile, load reliably, keep controls accessible, and avoid hiding the core answer behind animation or client-only interactions.
- Use original visuals when they add evidence
- Keep the main answer readable without interaction
- Verify mobile performance and accessibility
Measure search visibility without promising citations
No agency can guarantee placement or citation in an AI-generated result. Measure the inputs that can be improved: indexed pages, qualified organic sessions, impressions for relevant questions, assisted conversions, branded searches, leads by landing page, and whether priority pages are being crawled correctly. Refresh content when services, examples, standards, or source guidance change.
